My family and I moved to Lafayette 6 years ago, when my partner 15 years took a job at Woman's Clinic. We are blessed with two beautiful and smart children. I am a physician, but since the birth of our daughter I have been a stay at home mom. For both of us education was a priority and to that end we started looking for resources in the area when our oldest turned three. We were not looking for a day care and happened to come upon Montessori. It was obvious that this was nothing like a day care but more of a school where children are allowed to explore and grow at their own pace. We could see how much the teachers cared for the little ones in their care. Our oldest, now in 1st grade, started in Montessori when she was three. She was in White Oak with Angie as the lead teacher and Eunsuk and later Dilya as assistant teacher. She thrived under their care. Her curious nature was nurtured and she grew into a caring and very confident "big" girl capable of working on her own. My son followed his sister's footsteps into Montessori when he turned three, in the afternoon bilingual program, under the supervision on Ana Orizondo, Ana Ramirez, and Jennifer's care. Once again his loving nature and curiosity have been nurtured and at the same time he has learned to work on his own, being able to complete a task and be confident in what he is doing. We chose a bilingual setting on purpose to expose him to a second language (Spanish) at an early age. He will continue in Montessori this year. Last year I joined the board which has been a great learning experience and a very rewarding one. Montessori is truly a parent run school where each parent is working towards making this school a great one for our children and for ones to come. I look forward to another year of working towards the growth and development of this fantastic school.
